7Yet lifeless things giving a sound, whether flute or harp, if they do not give a distinction in the sound, how will it be known what is being piped or harped? 8For also if a trumpet gives an uncertain sound, who shall prepare himself for the battle? 9So also you, if you do not give a clear word through the language, how will it be known what is being said? For you will be speaking into the air. 10 So it may be many kinds of sounds are in the world, and not one is without a distinct sound” (1 Corinthians 14:7-10).

Members of this department are responsible for the following:

Ø Ensure that the musical and sound instruments are in good working condition.

Ø Ensure that the pastor’s attention is notified in writing, concerning any instrument or part of an instrument, which may not be in good working condition.

Ø Ensure that every musical and sound instrument is kept clean at all times – whether in use or while kept in the store.

Ø Ensure that cables are replaced as and when due.

Ø Ensure that instruments are set up on time before each church service or church meeting.

Ø Due to item 5, members of this department must ensure that they are always conversant with the dates and times of church programmes.

Ø Ensure that the public address systems are tuned up in such a way that the following are comfortable with the sound output – the pastor, the assistant pastors, and the choir; plus the occasional guest speakers.

Ø Ensure that the musical and sound instruments – and everything that is attached to it – are safely kept in the provided store and securely locked.

Ø Due to item 5, at least three persons should have the store keys – one, the pastor; two, an assistant pastor; and three, the head of the sound/technical department.

Ø Records of the receipts – or photocopies of receipts – of all musical/sound instruments are to be kept, and the period of the guarantees be noted and utilized if need be.
